This maps almost too neatly onto baking. People buy the Dutch oven, the banneton, the proofer, the grain mill, and the bread does not get better, because equipment was never the variable. The only purchases that ever changed anything for me were the ones that removed friction, not the ones that promised a result.
Your point about leverage is the same idea. An upgrade either buys you attention and time, or it buys you the feeling of having done something.
It’s funny how you reach the point where you can afford the upgrade, and you realise you don’t really need it. The way you describe the move from visible upgrades to the invisible ones (time, headspace, rest) is exactly how I think about it too. That’s the kind of wealth that actually changes your life. The wealth of enough.
I agree. The fact that money gives choice is liberating because if you don’t have it, it becomes a scarcity problem and then the mindset changes to fomo
Absolutely. When money is scarce, every decision can be loaded with anxiety, FOMO and or pressure. Once you have enough (and enough is different for everyone), the whole mindset shifts from “I might miss out” to “I can choose what actually matters.” That freedom is real wealth.
I relate to this so well. As someone who is still very young and doesn’t have to pay any expenses yet I still find myself not buying the things I desire in the moment because I know the gratification will die down very quickly and I’ll just have another object I need to take care of.
I love this!! At the moment, priorities for upgrades for me include hiring a coach and video editor, seeing a therapy, and having a medical surgery to make life more liveable. After that comes things like upgrading my iPhone because mine is ancient and I need a better camera for content creation, then travel, clothing etc. but only when I know it's something I really want and need. Thank you for putting this mindset into words 💕

Loved this!
I really like the invisible upgrade section. It isn't sexy, but it's so impactful. I agree with you, it's such a powerful shift.
Next level good!
love this!

I think you are content with your life and do not need more of anything :). That is nice :).
